| WRA COSPONSORS LEGS AGAINST ARMS 5K | ||||
| The epidemic of gun violence in the nation is considered by many to be a public health issue. Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) is an organization of physicians committed to eliminating the epidemic of youth violence in Philadelphia. As an outgrowth of that commitment, PSR is hosting the second annual Legs Against Arms 5K Race/Walk, one mile Fun Race/Walk at Saint Joseph’s University and the surrounding community on April 13, 2008. The Wynnefleld Residents Association is one of many organizations partnering in this event on April 13, 2008. PSR hopes to begin to change the social norms in Philadelphia that celebrate violence. Hopefully, Legs Against Arms will encourage youth and adults to come together to strengthen their legs as they send a clear message opposing arms in Philadelphia. Proceeds will support PSR’s on-going work to build respect between individuals in our local and global communities. |
As part of the day’s activities, PSR will also conduct a poetry contest
“Poems for Peace” for students in grades 7 through 12. Contestants should submit their original poem of 100 words or less about stopping the violence and creating peace. Finally, entries have already been submitted for a Peace Poster contest. The winning poster will be awarded a cash prize and the design will be incorporated into the T shirts for the Legs against Arms Race! Walk. Come out and join WRA and PSR for a fun day.
