The cell phone recycling program is;   Good for you!     Helps Others!

WRA CHRISTMAS PARTY
Once again WRA sponsored its annual Christmas party. This year’s party represented the 36th year that WRA has sponsored either the party or distribution of gifts to neighborhood children. The party was held on Dec, 22, 2007 at our usual venue; the Anderson Cultural Center. Approximately 120 children and parents from the the Samuel Gompers and Frederic Mann Elementary Schools, the West Philadelphia Cu!tural Alliance/Paul Robeson House and the Laboratory School and the immediate community were in attendance.

As for the last 35 years, our neighbor MYphI7 (Channel 17) provided a generous donation ($1,500)
to support the event. Also, the Marines Toys for Totsprogram donated over 200 toys. Special thanks to Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown for the donation of hats and gloves for all of the children.

We all enjoyed a delicious full course dinner, catered by Nadine Thomas. Joy Nottage from the Martin Luther King Association provided the entertainment, and special guest Santa Claus (Donald “Ducky” Birts) returned this year to hear the children’s wish lists and distribute gifts and toys. Several WRA Board members and staff attended and helped with chores including; Frances Aulston, Karen Rogers, Juanita Harmon, Brenda Williams, Hannah Rollings, Nora
Levitt, Cecelia Jones, Gwen Cottman, Clarence Smith, Amelia Hunter Hill, Cynthia Wood, Delores Capers, Maurice Monroe, and Paula Lamb and Dick O’Malley (photographers), coordinators Louise Moss, Legora Ragland, and Cassandra Cooley. Special thanks to all our volunteers and Sponsors.

2008 MEMBERSIP CAMPAIGN
It’s that time again. The time to renew your WRA membership. The Wynnefield Residents Association is a 501C3 non-profit organization celebrating 50 years of service to the residents of Wynnefield. WRA is one of the oldest on-going civic organizations in the City of Philadelphia with a proud record of service. WRA.’s strength is based on the continued participation of you, the residents of Wynnefield. Many of the issues that confront our community have been resolved or reduced to a minimum due to the activities of WRA. In the past, with your sup-   port, WRA successes have ranged from implementing or starting: abandoned car removal, Dial-ARide for seniors, school crossing guards, distributing food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, the “Secure All Wynnefield” program, lobbying Philadelphia Council for the construction of the joint Wynnefield Library/Cultural Center, to diabetes testing at West Park Hospital, and many other programs. WRA’s current initiative is funding for, and construction of, a Wynnefield Recreation Center.Become a member now or renew your annual membership for the   2008 membership campaign. As a member, you have a direct voice in addressing those issues that concern you and your neighbors. The WRA will continue to lobby on behalf of our residents to maintain proper housing and business practices through zoning, and provide recreational and cultural activities and youth and seniors’ programs. Join now and volunteer to serve on one of our committees. It will help to continue the strengthening of Wynnefield.
