| WRA 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION |
After more than a year of planning, on the weekend of May 4, 2007 WRA kicked off the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the organization's founding.
The weekend included a full schedule of activities. On Friday, May 4, the celebration began with a golf tournament at the Bala Golf Club. On Saturday, May 5th, the day began with a parade up 54th Street from Upland Way to Overbrook Avenue, followed by a picnic in nearby Fairmount Park, both of which |
|
were amply supplied with complimentary food supplied by Larry's Steaks take-out on 54th Street. Next, on Sunday, May 6th, the celebration continued with a tour of historic spots in Wynnefield, including the Wynne House, built in 1690, and the Mann School, which was the site of the Home for Destitute Colored Children, built by the Quakers on 1887. Finally, the celebration concluded on Sunday evening with a fabulous dinner-dance banquet at the Hilton Hotel on City Avenue.

Each event was very well attended and all together the anniversary was filled with plenty of history, fond memories and pleasant surprises for the residents of the Wynnefield community. Thanks to the many business sponsors, patrons and friends who supported the events financially, the government and civic agencies who assisted us, and our members who worked so hard to make the celebration such a resounding success.
